Garage Floor Coating Process

Step One: Degrease, Clean and Etch

DEGREASE

  1. Mix a small amount of Krud Kutter Clean and Etch according to instructions on container.
  2. Sprinkle Krud Kutter mix onto grease spots on your floor using a plastic sprinkle can.
  3. Scrub the mix into the surface with a stiff scrub brush until the foaming stops.
  4. Rinse the spots well and determine whether a second application to those particular spots is necessary.
  5. If the grease spots look adequately cleaned, move on to the cleaning process.

CLEAN and ETCH

  1. Mix Krud Kutter Clean and Etch with hot water in a 1 - 3 ratio (1 part Krud Kutter to 3 parts water).
  2. Dampen the concrete with a fine spray of water and then apply the Krud Kutter mixture using a sprinkle can.
  3. Scrub the mix into the surface with a scrub brush until the foaming stops. Then rinse the floor AT LEAST 3 - 4 times with a power washer.
  4. Allow the surface to dry for at least 3 - 4 good drying days before applying coating.

Step Two: 2 Coats of Poly-Glaze and Addition of Paint Chips

FIRST COAT OF POLY-GLAZE

  1. Being an epoxy, Poly-Glaze comes in two parts: Part A and Part B. Mix enough Poly-Glaze to coat your floor ONE time in a mixing bucket.
  2. After mixing Part A and Part B with a drill mixer, allow the mixture 1/2 hour of "Open Time" before you apply it to your floor.
  3. After this 1/2 hour of "Open Time", apply the product to the floor and let it dry overnight.

SECOND COAT OF POLY-GLAZE

  1. Again, mix enough Poly-Glaze Part A with Part B to coat your floor ONE time. Allow this mixture the required 1/2 hour "Open Time."
  2. After the 1/2 hour of "Open Time", begin rolling this second coat over your garage floor.
  3. If you are going to sprinkle in Rust-Oleum color flakes, this is the time to do it. Simply roll out a strip about 3 - 4 feet deep across the entire back of the garage and then sprinkle in the color flakes, stopping about 6" from the edge of the wet paint.
  4. Once this is completed, roll another strip 3 - 4 feet deep across the entire width of the garage and repeat the application of color flakes.
  5. Complete the floor in this manner and let it dry for 24 hours.

Step Three: 1 Coat of Pitthane Ultra

ONE COAT OF PITTHANE ULTRA

  1. Pitthane comes in a two component "Kit". The gallon of Component A must be mixed with the quart of Component B. To do this, pour the entire contents of Component B into the gallon of Component A and mechanically agitate.
  2. Once the two components are well mixed, there is no "Open Time" required. You can go ahead and apply this high-gloss clear finish to your floor.
  3. The floor, once completed, should dry for about 10 - 14 days before it receives vehicle traffic.
