Baseball on the radio, hot dogs on the grill, a Saturday afternoon nap . . . a summer of relaxation. That's why you built your deck in the first place, right? But now, a couple winters, a lot of rain and the harsh rays of the sun have worn your deck down. The wood looks gray, tired and, well . . . a little embarassing. Well . . . that's the bad news. The good news is that getting your deck ready for summer is not nearly as difficult, time-consuming (or expensive) as you may think. In fact, you can have your deck ready for summer in 3 Easy Steps. So come on . . . your Summer's waiting--get out there and enjoy it! Running short on time? Check out our "DECK IN A DAY" option by clicking HERE!
CLEAN IT!
Rent a power washer from RepcoLite and scrub your deck with Wolman's DeckBrite cleaner or Wolman's Deck and Fence Brightener to restore the gray weathered wood to its original condition. These cleaners are easy to work with and they're 100% biodegradable so they won't harm your grass, your plants or your shrubs. After you've washed and scrubbed the Deck, make sure you let it dry for 3 good drying days.
PROTECT IT!
After your deck is clean (and dry!), it's time to coat the wood with a quality wood protector. At RepcoLite, we carry a number of products that will provide your deck with great protection. - Woodmaster Wood Protector
- Woodmaster Semi-Transparent Stain
- Woodmaster Solid-Color Stain
- Wolman Raincoat
- Wolman F&P

Once you've selected your product, application is easy, though it does take a little time. (Though all that means is that you get to work on your tan).
YOUR TOOLS: All you'll need is your wood protector (figure about 150 SF/gallon), a Paint and Stain pad, an extension pole, a stain brush, a paint tray, a few tray liners and probably a few rags and some mineral spirits.
YOUR STEPS: You'll probably want to apply product to your railings and all vertical surfaces first. Use your stain brush for this process and be careful to wipe spills and drips off your siding, cement or anywhere they fall.
After you've coated the vertical surfaces, you've got the hardest part of the project complete. To finish, all you need to do is coat the floor of the deck and you're done. To do this, use your Paint and Stain pad and the extension pole to "mop" the product onto the deck. (Applying the stain to the floor of your deck using a Paint and Stain pad will save you time--the pad puts product on as quickly as a roller, but having a bristled face, it "works" the wood protector into the wood and guarantees great penetration.) You should take one or two deck boards and apply product over the length of the board, completely coating it before moving on to the next board. To coat the crack between boards, simply twist the Paint Pad on its side. DO NOT apply product in a square patch. If you do, you will struggle with overlap and your deck will start to take on a "patchwork" appearance.
ENJOY IT!
After you've completed steps 1 and 2, that's it. Now it's time for the fun part. So get out on your deck and start grilling. Fire up that AM radio and tune in to a Tigers game. Grab that book you've been meaning to get to and settle down for a great Summer! (And you can secretly laugh at all your neighbors whose decks don't look as good as yours).
