Change the Look of Your Home With a Little Paint

Painting Vinyl Siding

Do you have vinyl or aluminum siding? Have you ever looked at it and thought to yourself that it could use a facelift--a new look--a new lease on life? And then have you ever discarded the idea because you simply don't have the money right now to spring for new siding?

Well, not everybody realizes this, but if you're in that spot--if you've ever looked at your home and thought those thoughts--there's a cheaper way to change the color and infuse a little life into your home's exterior. Now, it's not as easy as hiring somebody to come and pull off all your siding and put new on . . . . No, it's not as easy as that, but it's much, much cheaper. And right now, living in Michigan, cheaper's definitely better.

If you haven't already guessed, the cheaper way we're talking about involves, of course, paint.House Painter Now, you're probably already aware that painting aluminum siding is possible, but you may not realize that painting vinyl siding is just as possible and produces excellent results. So, if you can bite off the time it will take to do the job right--probably a couple weeks' worth of working at night and on the weekends--you should be able to update the look of your home for less than $500.

And just in case you're reading this wondering if it's worth it, think about these quick facts which will put the whole job in perspective:

  • The body of an average home will usually require--at most--about 10 gallons of paint. The trim will usually require 3-5 gallons. That's 15 gallons, at an average cost of $25.00 each, for a total paint investment of $375. Compare that to new vinyl siding!
  • The new paint job will dramatically increase the curb appeal of your home, making it easier to sell (or easier to enjoy if you're planning on staying).
  • The new paint job can even increase the value of the neighborhood.
  • A new paint job will rejuvenate your thoughts and ideas and your creative spark. A new color on the exterior will suddenly open up new doors and options in your decorating. You'll have new ideas and new themes to work with in your landscaping, your shutters, your outbuildings, your doors, your fences.... Basically, a new color on your home will spark your creative side and you'll find yourself excited to bring new colors and new elements into your outdoor (and possibly even indoor) decorating schemes. If you're feeling bored and "out of ideas" when it comes to your home's exterior, the quickest way to kick start your brain and your creative side is to get a new color on your home.
